What do Taoists mean by emptiness? And what is that point of spiritual energy they were seeking?
What Lao Tzu calls Non-Being or emptiness is in reality the Great Tao. The Tao is the all-pervading principle of the universe—the First Cause, the Absolute. The Tao gives birth to all things, sustains all things. It is that to which all things return. It is mysterious and unfathomable yet, as one Taoist sage put it: "The Tao is closer to you than the nose on your face. The one impossible thing is to get a finger's breadth away from it."
